Imagining a New Reality for Menopause

I was recently in a workshop on something called “point of view marketing." At its core, it means telling people why you do your work the way you do, and telling the truth about what you see from where you stand.

During the workshop, the teacher asked us to imagine what the world might look like if systemic issues were solved for our clients, and to use the biggest picture we could hold in our mind.

SO many things came to me.

What follows are some of my daydreams in no particular order.

Imagine a world where:

💫We had a party like a wedding or bat mitzvah when a woman reached her menopause milestone (think of the fun registration gifts!)

💫Post-menopause creatrix crones were regularly consulted for their wise advice by younger people

💫Insurance companies no longer ruled our healthcare system, and all doctors had time to listen, and REALLY listened when you came to them for help (and knew how to refer out for integrative care when needed)

💫Everyone had access to food grown without toxic chemicals, clean air and water (yes, this relates back to your peri/menopause symptoms!)

💫We were taught how to take care of our bodies in rhythm with nature since birth (ah, I envy some of the folks taught Ayurveda as children!)

💫We valued rest as much as productivity

💫We lived in truly inter-dependent communities in which we knew and helped take care of our neighbors

💫We acknowledged and loved all body types (including all ethnicities)

💫We stopped airbrushing women on magazine covers, making movie stars feel like they need to Botox their faces within an inch of movement, and instead were in awe and curiosity around the aging of our bodies

The joy I feel imagining this reality! Playa Garza, Costa Rica. Photo by Sara Bellotti.

Though these ALL relate back to a symptom-free, drug-free transition through perimenopause, I still don’t feel like I’m thinking big enough.
