Picking An Abandoned Practice Back Up
At a certain time in my life, I wrote for 20 minutes daily. My day count got close to 1000 at one point. (I even wrote a blog about this for Denver’s Lighthouse Writers’ Workshop, 500 days of writing).
I let this practice go a few years ago, though I still wrote pretty consistently. Recently, after finishing the first draft of a pilot screenplay, I decided to take a break from creative writing to focus on Ayurveda school and building my business.
I miss it. I know it’s there waiting for me when I’m ready to create the space for it again.
Maybe you had a consistent practice you stopped– such as yoga, meditation, mindful eating, a morning or evening routine.
Perhaps you let go of a habit you know was benefiting you, and you miss it.
This is where grace for ourselves comes in. We don’t need to beat ourselves up over it. Life happens. Things change. We lose jobs and people. We lose beloved pets. Babies are born and babies leave the nest. We go into perimenopause and our energy levels drop.
Just remember: it’s there waiting for you to come back to it, whenever you’re ready.
And maybe it looks a little different this time around, because so does your life.
