The Emotional Roller Coaster of Perimenopause
I’ve been ALL over the place lately with my emotions. Angry one minute, the kind of angry where I want to punch someone, then wanting to sob over a tiny trifle the next. Then perfectly calm. Then anxious. Then joyful.
This roller coaster of emotions is normal. Perimenopause is a huge transition, which means not only are we kicking up vata (air +ether), we’re also moving from pitta time of life to vata time of life.
Post menopause, our emotions often become steady and stable as our bodies adjust to the new normal of hormones. There is also an increased capacity for spiritual fertility as our physical fertility falls away.
We’re stepping into our power years, ladies! 💥
Speaking of power.. I wasn't able to get outside this week (TOO COLD!) but I did get to my 1000th pilates class ;) -- breaking a sweat helps my emotions too!
I can't emphasize how important it is to BE with the emotions and give them a way to flow THRU. Has anyone else experienced how anger flares up a hot flash? ✋🏽 Just me?
How can Ayurveda support us on this emotional roller coaster? A few ideas…
⭐ Set a timer and journal your heart out for five minutes (LET. IT. OUT)- maybe even burn it afterwards! 🔥
⭐Routine, routine, routine (very important to ground vata)
Set the tone of your day with a short meditation
Make sure you’re eating meals around the same time daily
Evening wind-down routine for peace before bed
⭐ Take a five minute alternate-nostril breathing break
⭐ Give yourself a soothing oil massage
⭐ Treat yourself to a warm Ayurvedic smoothie to calm and ground vata
Honestly, there is so much more. Ayurveda is so vast that there is always another practice that can be experimented with to see if it’s the medicine for you.
