Flexibility is Self-care, Too
Recently, I was visiting family and having some conversations about Ayurveda. At one point said, my sister said “It seems like a lot of rules.”
Well, yes. And no.
It’s really a set of guidelines to better align ourselves with nature. It takes mindfulness and experimentation to find the practices that are right for you. Even then, once you figure out what works to keep you feeling well, and in balance, it’s important to be flexible.
One of the aspects I love about Ayurveda is that this system will always meet you where you are. It’s dynamic, just like you, just like the days, just like the seasons.
So my tidbit this month is to remind you, and myself, to be okay with not following our routines perfectly as we go do all the summer things. Maybe you pick one thing that you know will support you when you’re doing something out of the ordinary, like traveling. For example, I always take my self-massage oil when I travel, because I know oiling up will help me ground into the place where I’ve arrived.
Remember to ENJOY those treats-- be it ice cream, a cold fizzy water, or a late night of laughter with friends.
When you’re ready, come back to the practices that nourish you. As always, be kind to yourself along the way.
